Overwhelmed by social media planning?

In this uncertain fluctuating marketplace I often hear ceos, business owners and middle managers have a common thread in their perception of social media. Fear of the unknown, fear that if i speak on this platform on Facebook, Twitter etc... It will put a bulls eye on my back for negative feedback or what if I put the wrong thing out there are typical objections I hear. I get it. Business is scary. The entrepreneur, boss or manager in you doesn't want to fail. I don't know any type of business t… Continue

5 Ways to a improve your LinkedIn invitations

1. Personalized Invitation messages can remind people how you know them or where you met. Add a ‘personal note’ and send them a note about something of interest a group might focus on. For example, if I belong the green business groups send members links or information about a green topic. Show others you have something of value to connect with you.
2. Add your photo to your LinkedIn Profile. Your picture can often help jog the memory of those members that may not recognize your name. It also re… Continue

Michele, In regard to your discussion "Frustrated by not landing an interview"? I agree with adding a cover letter to in the e-mail. When a person has their first face to face interview, one usually dresses for the occasion to make a good first impression. Business attire is very appropriate. One could say the modern day equivalent communicating by e-mail might be termed "e-dress". A suit and power tie say a lot, so tuck in your shirt with spell check and match your shirt and jacket with good grammar!

Michele,

Great question! You may not like my answer.
Reputation whether online or off takes time. I would also say that there is incredible power in offline reputation building when it transends to an online form.

What I mean by this is....

If you've built a solid reputation offline with customers, prospects, and partners take what you've earned and translate it into lessons learned for others, engage your already existing offline contacts and encourage them to join you online.

How?
Tactically the easiest way to engage this group is through sites like this one. Invite them, encourage them, engage them, ask them, listen, to, read, and reply. I would also say that Linkedin another social media tool has a feature where your contacts can recommend you, your services and your company. You ask them for a recommendation, they complete it, you approve it, and in time recommendations will blanket your profile.

No Shortcuts! It's An Investment In Time and Talent.

Online is really no different than offline when it comes to building a reputation. If you provide value, do what you say you're going to do, and strive to be your best it will happen over time. Sad to say, there are no short cuts.

Try This Formula - Let Me Know How It Works.

Here's a formula for long-term success in building a reputaiton online. Start today. Pick a post online and comment, Tomorrow, write a blog post yourself. The next day comment on someone elses blog, The next day, pass along a cool site related to your speciality, or, research information your readers would benefit from, On the next day ask for help to find a question you want to know the answer to. and then repeat, over, and over until you've built a reputation for delivering online value.

I hope you find this post of value! ;-)
