About Me and Why You Should Care...

Since 2002 I have served as the Regional Director of the Ohio Small Business Development Center. I hold a Bachelor’s degree from The University of North Alabama, with majors in Economics and Finance and a Master’s degree from The Ohio State University in Public Administration. I spent the first 10 years of my professional career in banking and financial services. In 1999, I joined the Greater Columbus Chamber in the position of Executive Director of the Columbus Venture Network. In this capacity I led the organization’s efforts to increase the level of equity financing available to early stage businesses. Given my background in the investment space I endeavor to help prepare entrepreneurs to seek and obtain equity financing.

The Ohio Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is committed to you, the small business owner. The staff of the SBDC is passionate about small business and helping you succeed. The SBDC provides business advising and consulting services at "No Charge" to the entrepreneur as part of our relationship with the Small Business Administration and the State of Ohio. Also, we have one of the best SBDC teams in the country as evidenced by our being named the regional (five midwestern states) winner of the Service Center and Innovation Award by the SBA for 2007.

I write a business blog call "Ideas to Deals" covering various business topics. You can also find me on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. Finally you should check out and subscribe the the official blog for the Ohio Growth Summit, Ohio's premier small business conference.

I look forward to connecting with you.

Small Business and Social Media ~ What Is Your ROI?

Anyone that knows me can attest that I am totally bought in to social media. I have used tools such as Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook to build the on-line presence of the SBDC as well as to meet some really great people. I firmly believe that social media is an effective, inexpensive way for small businesses to get their message out and create a dialog with customers and prospective customers. It’s the new “word of mouth” marketing. It is, however, easy for small business owners to get confused… Continue

Hello Michael

Ohio Small Business Development Center

I understand that you do provide entrepreneurial development assistance and high-end business consulting to startup and emerging business owners free of charge. Starting my own business is something that I want to do. I already have some entrepreneurial development training, but I need some high-end business consulting. How can I get the business consulting that I need ? Can I make an appointment to come and talk with you about the business consulting that you are able to provide me to start this high-end business that I am interested in starting. I want to have a commercial real estates development business. I am interested in developing and owning office buildings. My business model
would be somewhat similar to an existing company in Boston by the name of “Boston Properties”.
(www.bostonproperties). I am looking for someone who can provide financial consulting. That is
“How can I create a pool of people who can invest in my development projects”.

Thank you
C. Roger Gilmore
